FURIOUS at this movie. The characters are nothing like they are in the book. Disappointed that Charles Martin permitted such a contradiction in his characters. By the mode, I've read 8 of his books!!
The values and ethics upheld by Ben in the book is what made Ben the wonderful character he was. Ben's dearest for his wife and children,
his restraint from crossing the physical line with Ashley, and his function as doctor and caretaker was non existent in this movie.
Ashley was witty, professional person, just Alex was not. She was snobby, demanding, and obnoxiously stubborn.
In the book, there was a bond of trust and friendship that developed because of the situation. In the movie, it was just another opportunity for characters to sleep together, which is such a trite, typical, and unoriginal story line these days.
Another disappointing fact is that I enjoy Kate Winslet and Idris Elba as actors.
I was so angry after watching this severely contradistinct story that I went back and read the book again so I could remind myself every bit to why I loved this story in the first place.

Starts out an take chances, ends upwards a beloved story. Beautiful to watch, but really,.. A Labrador Retriever bounding around in the high mountains for weeks in snow up to his elbows or more, and nothing happens to him??? No exhaustion, no hypothermia, no frostbite, no starvation,.. Stays fat and happy throughout. And no, he does non die (whew!) So this movie is safe to lookout, fellow dog lovers.

And then if you read the book- which I did and LOVED- so you will be sorely disappointed. It is NOTHING similar the book, not even the names of the characters are the same! As a stand alone movie notwithstanding it was good. The scenery is amazing, most of the situations are believable, but like I said information technology's null similar the book then I wish they hadn't tried to use the same proper noun or adapted the embrace of the volume to expect the flick jacket. (The name of the book has a lot more to practise with the backstory than with the actual airplane crash/mountain risk.) If you read the book first do become lookout the film- only be ready to accept it exist totally different. And if you spotter the motion-picture show you should read the book- it was a page turner, couldn't put it down. I become it, hollywood just has a couple hours to tell the story that takes an average of 5 hours to read, merely they could have done a way meliorate job at following at to the lowest degree the important events, and characters (like using the same names)!

Looking over some of these reviews, I idea this might exist a flop, merely I'g glad I took a risk and rented because I totally got into it. Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are excellent together as a pair of travelers/strangers whose flight gets cancelled leading them to connect and nautical chart a small plane home in bad weather. When the plane goes downwardly they are seriously stuck in the Utah mountains in the dead of January winter. Injured and lost across belief (no ane knows where they are)... with a beautiful golden retriever in tow.... they struggle to heal, eat, and seek out assist. Only nature doesn't arrive easy. Okay, lol, sometimes it does. More than a few user-friendly turns there were. A little on the sappy side. Maybe some implausible bits. Perchance a lot, lol. However, I constitute myself glued to the story and rooting for these two to make information technology and stay together. Will they or won't they? They both have partners...
What tin I say, I was able to suspend disbelief and just savour it despite any shortcomings. Sometimes nosotros only similar what we like...
Never read the volume. But I just might someday (even if it is shelved every bit Christian fiction, hmm, lol). Love me a good survival story out in the snow!! I absolutely never tire of such storylines. And these two actors are stellar. Top notch. I'll lookout man Kate Winslet in annihilation... and they seriously need to give Idris Elba more leading roles with his natural voice. I tin't agree with those who said they had no chemistry. There is something else I saw here... a survival bail. You go through crazy experiences with someone and you are bonded for life no thing how different you are. Very interesting for a 'romance.' And ps: Kate redeems herself here after letting Leo drown in Titanic... :)

Okay, I'm a chick, and sometimes chicks need chick flicks. Possibly it was my mood, melancholy, lovelorn, romantically challenged that motivated me rent this movie. In return, for a pocket-sized price of $4.99 (for the SD version), I received the perfect escape. In fact, for me, on this particular night, The Mountain Between Us managed to hit all the bells and whistles. The movie was incredibly well washed with scenes of truthful menace. Information technology'due south ridiculous to compare the movie with a Lifetime moving-picture show. No Lifetime picture show I have ever seen has the type of cinematography, staging and acting as The Mountain Between Us. I highly recommend this film to whatever woman who still has the flame of romance burning in her heart.

I'g non a fan of anything that includes even the slightest romantic love sliver, but this picture was so beautifully crafted with such amazing character portrayals, it hooked me from the start second to the last. Extremely realistic scenes, yous could feel the ice in your ain veins as they struggle through that frigid wilderness. Some other reason I adore this movie is considering information technology showcases just how random life is and withal has an assertion point of poignant poignancy and relavance at the end. The domestic dog was a cute, about angelic bear on, not just a random canine character. WHich brought the significance and underlying nuances of the story to the surface of those frozen waters. The human spirit, its ache to go on on fifty-fifty when the trunk is at its concluding moments is rivetingly portrayed. Idris Alba and Kate Winslet are flawless in their functioning. Some may say the ending was predictable and trite but it was anything but. If you immersed yourself in this movie you know merely how profound and life altering that last moment is and volition go on to be for these two characters in the stories we tin only imagine. They look like an odd pairing in the beginning simply watching the movie as information technology progressed, it was perfect casting. Elba'due south physicality adds to he realism that he really could lift and drag Kate Winslet'southward character through the deep snow. The inevitable happy catastrophe was sealed after both struggle to survive the aeroplane crash and the challenges they faced to be rescued. If you invested that much bonding with another human, one can't help falling for each other, peculiarly after so much hardship and close to decease encounters. The stark dazzler of a hostile mount range in the winter is a sight to behold just oh so awfully dangerous. Surviving the elements together makes a corking love story.

I think this movie is geared more for women than men, as I think may be axiomatic from many of the reviews here. It is not a harsh or epic survivalist movie; information technology is a romance with some beautiful scenery and soft-core survivalist elements.
I absolutely loved it; my husband not every bit much. The chemistry between Elba and Winslet is so good and their falling in honey is much improve done than most Hollywood love diplomacy I see. Winslet is the headstrong, somewhat rash become-getter who wants to break through Elba'due south quiet outside and Elba is the calm, strong force that keeps her grounded. You'll end upwards non wanting them to exit the wilderness considering information technology is and then satisfying to see how they take care of each other through information technology.
I'll be honest; I'thousand rarely moved by love stories on film considering information technology's usually flirty, superficial and sex-driven, but what we have in this motion picture are two serious, down-to-earth characters trying to survive. It feels then truthful and unaffected, and Elba in detail blew me away with how much emotion he could convey. He perfectly pulls off the portrait of a man who is potent, sensible, and has fallen deeply in love in spite of himself. The endmost scene of the motion-picture show moved me so much I burst into tears. This is i I'll definitely be buying.
