This article describes how to configure 2 NETGEAR switches to exchange traffic for multiple VLANs.

In this example, each switch is configured with ii VLANs (10 and xx). At that place is a link betwixt the switches over which traffic for both VLANs can pass. This is referred to equally the VLAN Trunk Link.

In this instance, the VLAN port membership on each switch is the aforementioned. We will therefore apply the same configuration to each switch.

• Ports i - v: VLAN x
• Ports half dozen - 10: VLAN xx
• Port 20: VLAN Trunk Link

Create the VLANs:

1. Open a web browser.
2. In the address bar of the web browser, blazon the IP address of the switch and press Enter.
3. Type the admin password of the switch and click Login.
4. Go to Switching - VLAN - Advanced - VLAN Configuration.
5. In the VLAN ID field, type the ID of the VLAN y'all wish to create and click Add together. Here we add VLAN 10.
   
6. Repeat the process to create VLAN 20.

Add ports to the VLANs:

1. Go to Switching - VLAN - Avant-garde - VLAN Membership.
2. In the VLAN ID driblet down menu, select VLAN x.
3. Marker ports 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 with a U. This designates an untagged port and is used for ports which connect to client devices such as every bit PCs.
4. Mark port 20 with a T. This designates a tagged port and is used for the VLAN trunk link.
   
5. Click Apply.
6. In the VLAN ID drop downwardly menu, select VLAN xx.
7. Mark ports six, seven, 8, 9 & 10 with a U.
8. Marker port 20 with a T.
9. Click Use.
10. In the VLAN ID drop down menu, select VLAN 1.
11. Remove ports 1 - 10 from VLAN 1. To practice this click on the ports until they are blank (i.e. until they contain neither a U or a T).
    Annotation: VLAN i is the management VLAN by default. Be careful non to remove the port you lot are managing the switch through from the direction VLAN!
12. Click Apply.

Configure port PVID settings for untagged ports:

1. Get to Switching - VLAN - Advanced - Port PVID Configuration.
2. For each port marked as untagged above, ready the PVID of that port to the VLAN ID of the VLAN it was assigned to. For instance, to a higher place nosotros added ports 1, 2, iii, four & v as untagged members of VLAN 10. Therefore nosotros sets ports 1, two, iii, four & 5 with a PVID of 10. Select ports one - five and type x in the PVID field.
   
3. Click Apply.
4. Select ports vi, 7, viii, 9, & 10 and type 20 in the PVID field.
5. Click Utilize.

Finally, connect both switches together using port twenty on each switch. To confirm that the configuration is successful, verify that a PC in VLAN x on ane switch can communicate with a PC in VLAN ten on the 2d switch.
